Is your counseling Christian-based?
Counseling is performed from a Christian perspective, but clients from all walks of faith or non-faith are welcome.
Do you take insurance?
Insurance is not accepted at this time. If you would like to file an out of network claim, we will gladly supply you with a super bill, but all fees are due at time of service.
Why do you not take insurance?
Confidentiality—diagnoses and information must be divulged to your insurance company in order for them to pay, which undermines the privacy of therapy.
In regard to diagnoses, some people seek therapy for personal growth and may not have a diagnosable mental illness. Insurance companies require a diagnosis, which can put a therapist in the position of diagnosing you just so the claim can be filed.
What are your fees?
If you’d like to discuss fees, please call. We do work with a few churches, offering special pricing for their members with a portion coming from the church.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, and credit cards/debit cards are accepted. There is a small convenience fee for use of a card.
What if I’m not sure I need counseling? Can I speak to you on the phone before making an appointment?
Yes. If you fill out an appointment request form, you will receive a call back from a therapist.
Why should I choose a marital intensive?
Retreats take place in a private, peaceful setting. The location varies, but currently takes place in the Memphis Metro area. Each couple has their own bedroom and bathroom accommodations for the weekend. Dr. Shelby will come to you each day for all sessions. If you’d like to discuss availability, pricing, accommodations, meals, and materials, please call.
